So while I am new and exploring I decided to tryout Green Chef's Keto meal plan. Since it was my first order I did receive a discount which is always nice.
First up on the menu - Mediterranean Tuna
According to the recipe card this meal has six steps....LIES! There are like a hundred steps. LOL. The first step I have to say was the best step and the most fun, zesting a lemon! This was my very first time zesting a lemon and making something with the lemon zest. Wow! What a great smell! It instantly made me miss my granny's lemon poundcake. Yum, but not Keto.
The next steps involved finely chopping mint and parsley. So I am not Julia Child nor am I Marcus Samuelsson (although I am totally in love with him) what does it mean to finely chop something? I love that all the ingredients were portioned out I will say it would reduce prep time if these items came chopped. Somehow I managed to chop them and not lose a finger or knuckle. Yay! Thank goodness the Red Kale only needed to be roughly chopped. Okay so yeah I don't know what that means either, but I somehow managed.
On the recipe card it recommends having a food thermometer. In my mind that's always been a waste of money. I was WRONG. I have a fear of eating undercooked meat so I always cook food a little longer than suggested. My tuna was a bit overcooked. If I had listened and purchased a thermometer I probably could have avoided this. Next time I will be armed with a thermometer. I have already added one to my saved Amazon cart with 1500 other items I intend to purchase one day.
This experience did pop my radish cherry. I have never had a radish before tonight. YUM! They are delightful! Funny thing though as soon as I saw them I instantly thought about Fraggle Rock. Bottomline radishes are now on my Keto shopping list. Yay! Another Keto friendly vegetable for me to enjoy.
While my finished product did not look exactly like the picture I will say it was a delightful meal. Green Chef did a great job. In my opinion it would be helpful if Green Chef asked about your skill level as part of the plan preference. Recipes that require a lot of chopping and cutting will most definitely take a beginning cook longer to make. Additionally, more details on the card about items needed would be helpful too. I needed olive oil, cooking oil, water, two frying pans, and a strainer to prepare these meal.
Overall if you would like to expand your Keto horizons trying a meal kit like Green Chef may be helpful. The portions were good. I have food leftover to share or take for my lunch. This meal I give one thumb up!
Helpful Tip - When you receive a meal kit with fresh ingredients it is helpful to separate your ingredients by recipes before storing them in your refrigerator. Everything was all mixed in together in my drawer. So I spent a few minutes separating everything. Just my two cents!
